"Never associate with lowly beastmen." That was the rule my father ingrained into me. Soon after... he was the first person other than a family member to call me by my name. Yuki was my very first friend.

—Luka's sentiments, sharing his story about meeting Yuki to Tao and Alma.

Luka Kiyomine ( (キョ) (ミネ) () 鹿 () Kiyomine Ryūka) is one of the characters in Yuto Sano's manga series, Gokurakugai.

Appearance[]

Luka possesses a compact stature, gentle facial features, slightly larger eyes, and short, curled hair complemented by extended bangs.

While he is currently enrolled in school, his typical attire comprises a conventional school uniform—a buttoned shirt paired with a tie, akin to formal wear. This is coupled with knee-length pants and a bag that resembles a portfolio, complete with a detachable sling for versatile backpack-style carrying.

During more relaxed occasions, as observed when he encountered Alma in the vicinity of the Troubleshooter's Office, Luka donned an ensemble that included a shirt reminiscent of a qipao, layered beneath a V-neck sweater. His pants were stylishly cuffed just above his ankles, and he completed the look with boots.

Personality[]

Luka displays a certain level of authority and outspokenness, attributed in part to his status as the offspring of a renowned zaibatsu, which affords him a degree of influence. Despite harboring apprehension towards Tao's composed yet intimidating demeanor, Luka possesses a grounded nature, particularly in matters concerning his sole confidant, Yuki.

Plot[]

Background[]

Luka Kiyomine is the heir of the Kiyomine Zaibatsu, a wealthy family. Despite his privileged background, he faced bullying from classmates and frequent conflicts with his father, who disapproved of his passion for drawing. Luka's father often argued with him about his manga supplies, leading to frequent disagreements. One day, after his father removed all his art materials, Luka was sketching outside when he met Yuki, who admired his art. This encounter marked the beginning of their friendship, which Luka cherished despite his father's rule against befriending those deemed inferior.

Luka's graffiti outside the Gokurakugai Troubleshooter Agency was an attempt to connect with Yuki and might aid in finding him. His determination to locate Yuki led him to offer a substantial reward for information about his missing friend. Luka's search for Yuki was driven by a case involving disfigured animal corpses and a recent disappearance, which he connected to his friend's abduction. His search eventually led him to encounter a Maga, a creature that threatens Yuki. Luka, initially skeptical of the troubleshooters Alma and Tao, ultimately turned to them for help, revealing his identity as the Kiyomine Zaibatsu heir and his desperation to find Yuki.

The Missing and Disfigured Bodies Case[]

After completing some errands for Tao, Alma was on his way back to the Troubleshooters' Office when he noticed Luka engrossed in working on a mural not far from their headquarters. Driven by a sense of responsibility, Alma was compelled to deliver a punch to Luka's head, given that his unauthorized actions were likely to invoke reprimands from Tao and Auntie, as Alma anticipated.

Luka obediently followed Alma back to the Troubleshooters' Office, where they were met by the slightly unhinged Tao, who demanded payment for certain repairs. In a state of trepidation, Luka resorted to a threat, insinuating that he would report their supposed extortion to his parents. Clutching the money he had been saving to find his missing friend, Yuki, Luka portrayed a facade of confidence. Meanwhile, Alma presented a hand-drawn pamphlet, meticulously crafted by Luka himself, containing detailed information about Yuki's appearance in hopes of facilitating his location.

Tao's curiosity was piqued by this development, prompting Luka to recount his predicament—a situation where Yuki had suddenly vanished. Luka recounted the discovery of Yuki's hat in an alley he frequented, which set off his search for his friend. This friendship had been forged against the backdrop of Luka's father's prohibition against associating with lower-class beasts. Luka's self-reliance in the matter stemmed from his inability to enlist parental aid. Upon learning of this, Alma extended his assistance, but a cardboard sign in disarray caught Luka's attention, prompting his proclamation about the state of the Troubleshooters' Office before his departure.

Luka continued his solo quest for Yuki, eventually stumbling upon what he presumed to be another lifeless animal in an alley. To his astonishment, he found Yuki there, covered in wounds, pleading for release. However, an enigmatic creature emerged from the shadows, seizing Yuki and attempting to devour him. Driven by his determination to save his friend, Luka confronted the creature with unwavering resolve. Despite his valiant efforts, he proved powerless, and just as Luka and Yuki faced imminent consumption, the timely arrival of Tao and Alma thwarted the threat, rescuing both Luka and Yuki from their dire predicament. The assailant revealed itself as a "maga," a gruesome amalgamation of human and animal remains brought back to life.

Overwhelmed by the baffling turn of events, Luka sought answers from Tao, who wielded a firearm capable of dispatching magas. In response, Tao defined their role as hunters combatting malevolence. Alma, who possessed the unique bloodline that granted the magas their extraordinary abilities, signaled Tao's proclamation of a "solution" by withdrawing a blade from his chest. In truth, Alma was a "half-maga child," born of a union between a maga and a human. Saved from his imminent transformation into a maga, he had become a specialized maga hunter in collaboration with Tao within the ranks of the Troubleshooters.

Alma's decisive strike incapacitated the maga, ensuring the safety of Luka and Yuki. Refusing compensation for their intervention, Tao and Alma offered an alternative—a proposition for a meal, contingent on the success of Luka's artwork sales, before making their exit. Subsequently, Luka expressed his gratitude by crafting a visually appealing replacement sign for the Troubleshooters' Office, replacing the hastily drawn cardboard original, and presented it as a token of appreciation during a subsequent visit.

Relationships[]

Familial[]

Luka's Father[]

Luka's relationship with his father was strained, primarily due to his father's disapproval of Luka's passion for drawing. His father often criticized Luka's interest, leading to frequent arguments, particularly over the manga supplies Luka used for his artwork. The tension escalated to the point where his father cleared out Luka's belongings, further deepening the rift between them. Despite his father's strict rule against befriending those he deemed inferior, Luka defied him by forming a close friendship with Yuki, who genuinely appreciated his art. This friendship became an important part of Luka's life, even though it went against his father's wishes.

Non-Familial[]

Yukiharu Nishi[]

Chapter 1-5

Luka meets Yuki.

Luka and his friend Yuki shared a close and important bond. Luka, who was bullied at school because of his wealth and often clashed with his father over his love for drawing, found comfort in Yuki, who became his first real friend. Even though his father didn't approve, Luka deeply appreciated how Yuki admired his art. This strong connection drove Luka to take extreme measures to find Yuki when he went missing.

Determined to find his friend, Luka even spray-painted graffiti around the area, hoping it would help him reconnect with Yuki. His search led him to the Gokurakugai Troubleshooter Agency, where he asked for help. Although Luka initially didn't trust the agency, fearing they might not be reliable, he soon realized they were the only ones who took him seriously, unlike the police.

Luka's relentless efforts finally paid off when he found Yuki, who was injured and barely conscious, in an alley surrounded by disturbing signs, like dead animals and Yuki's hat. Just as Luka felt relieved, a monstrous creature appeared, threatening Yuki's life. Despite his fear, Luka tried to protect Yuki by distracting the creature, but it was only with Alma and Tao's help that Yuki was saved.

Luka's deep concern for Yuki was clear as he begged Alma and Tao for help, and after they defeated the creature, Luka tearfully thanked them for rescuing his friend. Later, Luka visited their office, bringing donuts as a thank-you gesture, and offered to pay them back, though they declined, suggesting he treat them once his art gained recognition. Luka also created and gifted a metal standee for the agency's sign, showing his gratitude and connection with Alma and Tao. He agreed to go with them to visit Yuki in the hospital, further strengthening his bond with his friend.[2]

Alma[]

Chapter 1-11

Luka surprised Alma and Tao with his newly designed signage for their agency.

Alma is someone Luka met through a series of events involving graffiti and a missing person poster. At first, Luka found Alma and his partner Tao suspicious,[3] but they were the only ones who truly listened to his story about his missing friend Yuki. Alma and Tao intervened to help Luka save Yuki from a dangerous creature. Through this encounter, Luka's initial mistrust turned into appreciation and gratitude for Alma's bravery and assistance. Luka sees Alma as a heroic figure and acknowledges that Alma's agency played a pivotal role in saving Yuki's life.[4]

Tao[]

Luka Kiyomine's relationship with Tao starts when he goes to the Gokurakugai Troubleshooter Agency, desperately searching for his missing friend, Yuki. At first, Luka is wary and doesn't trust Tao and Alma, even accusing them of trying to rip him off when they ask him to pay for the damage he caused with graffiti. But because he's so desperate to find Yuki, Luka eventually shares the details of his friend's disappearance, despite his unease. Tao listens carefully, interested in his story, and though she seems calm, her actions show she's determined to help Luka.

When they later face a dangerous creature called a Maga, Luka is scared and confused by how fearless Tao seems, but she quickly takes control, explaining what the creature is and working with Alma to defeat it. After they successfully rescue Yuki, Luka feels deeply grateful to Tao, especially after realizing the risks she and Alma took to help him. He starts to see Tao as someone he can rely on. Their relationship grows from initial distrust to mutual respect, and Luka even brings them donuts and a custom-made sign for their agency as a thank-you gift. This gesture shows Luka's growing bond with Tao, recognizing her as a key ally in saving his friend.[3][4]
